Seimas European Club
The Seimas European Club is an informal discussion forum comprising Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and Members of the European Parliament elected in Lithuania who believe in the idea of a united Europe, respect human dignity, freedom, equality, human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and recognize the importance of EU membership for the future of Lithuania.
I proposed to create the Seimas European Club in 2005, as I was the Deputy Chair of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs. The first meeting of the Seimas European Club took place on 15 April 2005 and I was elected to be the first President of the Club.
Currently, the Seimas European Club comprises 21 members with whom it is always a pleasure to discuss the matters related to European Union, our place in it and the future prospects for all of us.
During its meetings, the Club addresses current issues related to Lithuania’s membership of the European Union and takes interest in EU’s history and development. Famous historians and experts on culture, European integration, political science and international relations from Lithuania and other EU member states are invited to make presentations at the meetings of the Club. All meetings of the Club are open to the public and are held in the European Information Office, Information and Communication Department of the Office of the Seimas (Room 130, Building 3 of the Seimas, Gedimino pr. 53, Vilnius).
